How should we be making the best use of social media?

Although we have been highly ranked in the UK for our use of social media we are only scratching the surface as regards the influence that social media can have on supporting the University in meeting its objectives. There is little doubt that the positive use of social media can bring significant benefits in many areas from recruiting students to supporting postgraduates, from communication with our current students to maintaining contact with alumni.

There are highly respected experts in UWS who are advising external organisations on how they should be applying social media but are we taking full advantage of their expertise ourselves? In an attempt to open up this area for discussion a padlet has been created at to hold suggestions and the twitter hashtag #uwssocial should be used to support comment.

Social Media Updates

Please note that once you have logged into Moodle there are two areas of Twitter widgets:

· under the Staff Only block there are The List (tweets by UWS staff and services), Externals (tweets by influential organisations) and EdChat (general educational tweets)

· under the Updates block there are Postgraduates (tweets related to PhD study), Facebook (UWS Facebook page) and Twitter (@UniWestScotland tweets)

most of these widgets have a supporting padlet which is shown at the top of the widget. Please use these padlets to suggest improvements on the tweets that are gathered
